AUSTRALIA'S #1 ACOUSTIC GUITAR SPECIALIST
This Martin AK Koa A-Style Mandolin, made in 1926 at the famous Martin workshop in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, is beautifully crafted in solid Hawaiian Koa for the back, sides, and top. Martin used a lot of Koa at this time during the Hawaiian music craze, and this gorgeously figured timber has a warmth and sweetness that works beautifully on a lightly built instrument such as this.
It appears to have been very well cared for over its near-century-long life! As expected with a Martin instrument, this mandolin has a strong and resonant voice with very comfortable playing action. There's plenty of vintage patina and light wear, and it's had a very good refret at some point in its life. This piece has a great sound with plenty of high-end chime and midrange warmth, and the Koa construction affords more low-end than is typically offered by a spruce top. Includes non-original hardshell case.
