Excellent strings for both flat and finger picking. Well balanced tone with warm bass and clear trebles. And they last well, holding their tone for longer than most other strings I’ve tried.

AustraliaI have been using D’Addario bronze-wounds on my Martin but they don’t have the sparkle of the Monels Martin fit as original strings. I've used Martin strings on various guitars for over 50 years, always a great sound and lovely feel.

AustraliaThe guitar that I wanted to try the Martin 12-54 Retro strings on is a rare 1987 Takamine G330, a Martin D18 reproduction. The Retro strings certainly lived up to their design brief, ie bringing the pure sound of older guitars to life. The G330 now has great balance across the base to treble, great intonation and fabulous sustain and resonance. The Retro strings are kind to the fingers and hold their tune very well, especially in Melbourne's changeable weather. I will use them all the time on this great vintage Takaimine guitar. Mark.

Martin Retro strings are available in the standard gauges as well as two artist gauges; Lawrence Juber (LJ’s Choice) and Tony Rice. The latter two are 13-56 gauge strings but not as heavy overall as standard 13-56 gauge. However, 12-54 gauge strings would be an excellent choice for most players and guitars. The tone of Retro strings is more mellow than phosphour bronze strings and in many cases not as harsh or metallic. They work with the guitar rather than put their own tone on it. I use them on both rosewood and mahogany backed dreadnoughts and they sound lovely. They also last well and are comfortable to play. Give them a try!
