The Maton Master Built Series represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship, with a focus on creating instruments that are truly one-of-a-kind. After the retirement of head of Custom Shop Andy Allen in 2023, Maton’s Head of R&D Patrick Evans, along with a team of highly skilled luthiers, has worked tirelessly to bring this next-level collection to life. The Master Built guitars are hand-crafted using only the finest tonewoods, and each instrument is individually voiced for its unique tonal properties, making every guitar in the series a true work of art. Limited to only two dealers in Australia, the Maton Master Built Dreadnought 'Adirondack / Australian Red Cedar' Acoustic Guitar stands as a testament to Maton’s ongoing legacy of creating premium, world-class instruments.
The Master Built series builds on the success of Maton’s Custom Shop, with a scientific approach to guitar design that combines acoustic mapping technology and rigorous material testing. Patrick Evans, Head of R&D, emphasizes that the goal is to consistently produce guitars that reflect the craftsmanship of past models while pushing the boundaries to rival the best in the world. This process includes careful selection and treatment of each component, from soundboard to bracing, ensuring that the materials enhance the guitar’s tonal character. The guitars are designed to be lightweight, using resonant woods and "A"-shaped bracing to optimize response and sound quality.
The Maton Master Built Dreadnought is a true masterpiece, designed with the finest craftsmanship and attention to detail. Built with hand-selected tonewoods, the Adirondack Spruce soundboard provides a bright, fast attack with rich overtones and incredible dynamic range, while the Australian Red Cedar back and sides offer a magical presence and punch, bringing out the deep tonal qualities of the dreadnought body shape. Complemented by a traditional Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, and binding with a pinstripe in Ebony, this guitar is a true work of art.
Fitted with Maton’s renowned AP5 Pro pickup system, the Master Built Dreadnought is ready for any stage, ensuring clear, dynamic amplification. The intricate details, including tight herringbone rosette, ratio chrome open-back tuners, and tortoiseshell pickguard, further elevate this guitar’s visual appeal. Whether you're an avid performer or a dedicated collector, the Maton Master Built Dreadnought offers a level of tone and craftsmanship that is second to none.
