The Waterloo WL-14 Scissortail is a special edition of the flagship WL-14 series, drawing its name from the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, a bird common to the Central Texas Hill Country, and paying homage to the "Oriole" guitars produced by Kalamazoo between 1940 and 1942. Built with maple back and sides and vintage-inspired X-bracing, the Scissortail delivers excellent projection and focus while retaining the woody, characteristic tone that has made the WL-14 series so highly regarded among players seeking authentic prewar-style acoustic voicing.

A natural finish coupled with distinctive tortoise-style binding sets this instrument apart visually from other WL-14 models, while an original Scissortail decal on the headstock completes the vintage homage in true-to-era fashion. Handmade in Austin, Texas, this 2017-built example shows light playwear with one small, professionally repaired crack between the soundhole and neck extension, and an LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole pickup has been professionally installed and removed for now, with the internal wiring ready should a future owner want it reattached. It's ideal for blues, folk and roots players after the warm, focused, vintage-correct tone of a prewar-inspired small-body acoustic, and includes the original hardshell case.
