The Santa Cruz OM is a masterclass in small-body acoustic design, built by one of the most respected custom shops in the world. This example pairs an Adirondack spruce top with a mahogany body, a combination that produces a focused, responsive voice with strong fundamental clarity, warm midrange, and the kind of dynamic headroom that rewards both light fingerpicking and more assertive playing styles. Adirondack spruce is stiffer and more powerful than Sitka, delivering greater headroom and a livelier, more immediate response, and here it is braced with Adirondack braces attached with traditional hot hide glue, a construction method that maximises tonal transfer and allows the top to vibrate with maximum freedom. Custom koa body binding and koa peghead overlay add a refined, understated aesthetic that elevates the build without overcrowding it.
The OM body shape is one of the most versatile in acoustic guitar design, comfortable for both fingerstyle and flatpicking, with a comfortable waist and balanced projection that translates well in both intimate and live settings. Santa Cruz's attention to detail and hand-crafted approach produces instruments with exceptional consistency and long-term playability, and this 2021 example is truly one of the finest OM's you will ever hear. It's in stunning condition too, with minimal playwear and a great medium action.
