The Master Built Series represents the pinnacle of the Maton's craftsmanship, combining cutting-edge acoustic technology with the finest tonewoods to create guitars that are truly one-of-a-kind. Following the retirement of Maton Custom Shop’s head luthier Andy Allen in 2023, Maton’s Head of R&D, Patrick Evans, and his team of luthiers have developed a new standard of excellence. The Master Built Series is a carefully curated collection of hand-crafted instruments, each individually voiced to deliver unparalleled tonal quality. Limited to only two dealers in Australia—The Acoustic Centre and Guitar Factory Gladesville—these guitars are a testament to Maton’s enduring legacy of premium, world-class instrument building.
Evans and his team employed a scientific approach, using acoustic mapping technology to analyze and refine the best elements of Maton’s previous Custom Shop models. Every component is meticulously selected, tested, and adjusted to optimize tonal response and playability. The guitars are built with a lightweight philosophy, using carefully matched soundboards and bracing to maximize resonance and sustain. This new Master Built line ensures consistency while maintaining the unique character and craftsmanship that made Maton Custom Shop guitars highly sought after.
Let’s take a closer look at the four models that make up this extraordinary series.
